Metro Gold Line Eastside Access Phase II Calvary Cemetery Pedestrian Path

  • Project Scope:
    The primary objective of this project is to widen the existing sidewalk along the 2-mile-long perimeter of Calvary Cemetery. The existing sidewalk will be widened to accommodate a 5-foot wide rubberized path, pedestrian lights and parkway trees. - Narrowing of pavement and reduction of traffic lanes along Downey Road to accommodate walking path. - Removal/planting of parkway trees. - Relocated and new street lights. - New pedestrian lights.
  • Project Benefits:
    This project complements the on-going improvements in East L.A. to improve access to the Metro Gold Line. It promotes active transportation and improves public health by providing a convenient location with a resilient walking surface to encourage residents to exercise.
  • Community Engagement:
    AECom (Metro's consultant) presented the project at 3 community events in 2013/2014. This project was also presented to the Greater East Los Angeles Advisory Committee on November 18, 2014. Two more community meetings were held, one on November 14, 2017 and the other one on January 10, 2019. A project information flyer and a pre-construction brochure will be provided just after the project has been awarded and a week prior to start of construction, respectively.

    Unincorporated County Community of East Los Angeles.

    - Total Project: $15,500,000 - Construction: $12,300,000 - Grant Funds: $1,997,965
  • Economic Impact:
    Project construction supports 65 direct and indirect jobs.
  • Schedule:
    - Final Plans – Jan 2025
    - Advertise for Construction Bids – Feb 2025
    - Start of Construction – Jul 2025
