Project Scope:The project includes repairs at five locations along approximately 3.12 miles of Santa Anita Canyon Road/Chantry Flat Road. The project was approved in August 2015 for a grant through California Federal Lands Access Program (CA FLAP). Under an agreement between the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the County of Los Angeles, FHWA will design and administer construction of the project. - Cover hillside with wire mesh sheathing to prevent rockfall hazard. (see map, site 1) - Reconstruct and improve an existing drainage crossing, construct debris basin, construct secant wall (see map, site 2) - Stabilize an existing retaining wall. The existing retaining wall failed on 1/5/17 during the rain storms. The County will re-construct in advance of the other 4 sites. FHWA will deduct the construction and CE cost from the County match. (see map, site 3) - Reconstruct pavement. (see map, site 4) - Mill and overlay pavement. (see map, site 5)

Project Benefits:Improves road condition for motorists and bicyclists and reduces future road and slope failures due to severe weather conditions.

Community Engagement:There is no significant impact to residents and businesses during construction. Traffic control measures will be implemented during construction.

Cost Estimate:- Total Project: $11,818,000 - Construction: $9,084,600 - CA FLAP Grant Funds: $7,652,000 (64.75%) - County Match: $4,166,000 (35.25%)
