Firestone Metro Blue Line Station Intersection and Bikeway Improvements

  • Project Scope:
    The primary objective of this project is to install traffic signal and pedestrian improvements including bulbouts, continental crosswalks, and accessible pedestrian signals at four intersections of Firestone Boulevard and Graham Avenue, Firestone Boulevard and Holmes Avenue, 87th Place and Compton Avenue, and 89th Street and Compton Avenue, as well as implementing bikeways on segments described below: - 88th Place from Central Avenue to Zamora Avenue. - Zamora Avenue from 88th Place to 89th Street. - 89th St from Zamora Avenue to the Maie Avenue. - 92nd Street from Miner Street to Alameda Street. UPDATE: Parkway Tree Removals will occur at 8750 Compton Avenue (1 tree) and 1815 Firestone Boulevard (1 tree).
  • Project Benefits:
    This project complements the on-going improvements in the community of Florence-Firestone. It promotes active transportation and improves public health by providing bike routes along multiple segments of 88th Place and 89th Street, as well as major improvements at 4 intersections within the community.
  • Community Engagement:
    A community meeting was held on June 12, 2019; the community and Second Supervisorial District are in support of the project. Project Information Flyers were mailed to residents a few months prior to construction and preconstruction brochures were hand delivered the week prior to construction to advise residents of the work schedule and traffic restrictions during construction. On June 8, 2022 Public Works attended a local community meeting to provide construction updates and address any concerns.

    - Start of Construction – Apr 2022
    - End of Construction – Feb 2023
