South San Jose Hills - La Seda Road, et al.

  • Project Scope:
The primary objective of this project is to preserve 5 miles of residential roads. The project will be constructed in two phases. Phase 1 will include pavement preparation and all concrete related works including installation of any missing sidewalks. Phase 2 will include the pavement preservation treatments. Phase 1 The project includes the following proposed work: - Concrete repairs associated with damaged existing sidewalks, curbs and gutters, driveways, and cross gutters. - Construct needed new sidewalks and curb ramps - Curb ramps upgrade to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards (ADA). - Pavement dig-outs associated with severe pavement distresses. All the work in Phase 1 will be constructed through both Road Maintenance's Force Account and Construction Bids prior to the pavement treatment in Phase 2. Phase 2 The proposed work will include full width micro-milling of the road surface followed by a cape seal consisting of an application of a scrub seal and a slurry seal. All the work in Phase 2 will be constructed through a Job Order Contract.
  • Project Benefits:
The proposed work includes micro-milling to improve road ride-ability; scrub seal to seal cracks; and slurry seal to preserve the pavement and provide a smoother, more finished driving surface. The preservation is estimated to extend the pavement life for an additional 6 to 8 years. To better care for the environment, all aggregates (tiny rocks) used come from recycled pavement. All missing sidewalks will be assessed and constructed when feasible. Needed repair works for existing sidewalk, curb and gutter repair as well as installation of curb ramps to meet ADA will also be performed.
  • Community Engagement:
A construction brochure will be provided approximately two weeks prior to start of construction.
