West Whittier Los Nietos Mines Boulevard et al

  • Project Scope:
    The primary objective of this project is to resurface 3.0 miles of major roads. The project includes the following proposed work: - Parkway improvements and curb ramp upgrades - Traffic safety and pedestrian enhancements such as: -Upgrading existing temporary bulbouts at various locations -Construction of permanent traffic circle features at Mines Boulevard and Gretna Ave - Roadway resurfacing
  • Project Benefits:
    This project will improve quality of life for residents and lessen wear and tear on vehicles. This project will also help to preserve natural resources by using recycled and in-place materials, resulting in cost savings and reduction in greenhouse gas, energy, and landfill deposition.
  • Community Engagement:
    Public Works held a community meeting in September 2023 to introduce the community to the project. A project information flyer was mailed to the community when the project was advertised in Spring 2024. The contractor is distributing construction brochures to residents who are directly affected by work associated with concrete repairs and updates. Another community meeting is planned in March 2025 to discuss the construction of the permanent improvement of the traffic circle at Mines Boulevard and Gretna Avenue, and the pavement resurfacing.

    Various roadways within the Unincorporated Community of West Whittier Los Nietos.
  • Cost Estimate:
    - Total Project: $11,650,000 - Construction: $8,054,565
  • Economic Impact:
    Project construction supports 60 direct and indirect jobs.
  • Schedule:
    - Advertise for Construction – Mar 2024
    - Start of Construction – Sep 2024
    - End of Construction – Dec 2026
