120th Street Traffic Signal Safety Project

  • Project Scope:
    The objective of this project consists of various traffic signal improvements, including upgrading standards, master arms, vehicle heads, bicycle and vehicle detection, protected-permissive left-turn phasing, access ramps, communication, and other associated equipment at the intersections of 120th Street at Normandie Avenue and 120th Street at Compton Avenue.
  • Project Benefits:
    When properly used, traffic signals are valuable devices for the control of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. They provide for the orderly movement of traffic and may reduce the frequency and severity of certain type of collisions. This traffic signal upgrade project will also enhance pedestrian safety and provide accessible route with ADA compliance for pedestrians use.
  • Community Engagement:
    A project information flyer and a pre-construction brochure will be provided shortly after the project has been awarded and a week prior to start of construction, respectively.
  • Project Location:
    This project is at the intersections of 120th Street at Normandie Avenue and 120th Street at Compton Street in the unincorporated County community of Los Angeles in Supervisorial District No. 2.
  • Cost Estimate:
    Total Project: $4,200,000 Construction: $ $1,478,000
  • Economic Impact:
    Project construction supports 18.32 direct and indirect jobs.
  • Schedule:
    - Advertise for Construction – Feb 2023
    - Start of Construction – Jan 2024
    - End of Construction – May 2025
