Santa Monica Mountains - Kanan Tunnel project and Mulholland Highway project (see TGR0000032)

  • Project Scope:
    Upgrade existing guardrails that are located on Kanan Tunnels #1, #2 and #3 to current standards and install new guardrail on Mulholland Highway.
  • Project Benefits:
    A guardrail is a highway feature that is designed primarily to reduce the severity of a run-off road type collision. It may also redirect an errant vehicle and dissipate energy from a collision in some cases. It may reduce collision severity for a motorist in situations where it is determined that striking the guardrail is less severe than running off the road onto a steep embankment.

    The Kanan project is on Kanan Road and Kanan Dume Road within the Unincorporated Community of Santa Monica Mountains and the Mulholland project is on the south side of Mulholland Highway, 1000 feet west of Encinal Canyon Road, in the unincorporated community of Malibu, in the Third Supervisorial District.

    Total Project Budget: $2,891,000
  • Economic Impact:
    Project construction supports direct and indirect jobs.
