LA COUNTY ADVISES RESIDENTS TO PREPARE AHEAD OF UPCOMING STORM - LA County Public Works

Media & News

LOS ANGELES (Nov. 13, 2025) — Los Angeles County Public Works is encouraging residents to prepare ahead of a storm expected to enter the region Thursday evening.

Moderate rainfall is expected to bring 1 to 2 inches of rain to coastal and valley areas and 2 to 5 inches in the foothill and mountain communities between late Thursday evening through Sunday morning.

Recent burn areas, including the Canyon, Bethany, Eaton, Palisades, Hawk, Hurst, Kenneth, Sunset, Lidia, Bridge, and Franklin burn areas, remain particularly vulnerable to mud and debris flows. Residents in these areas should remain alert, monitor official weather updates, and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall periods.

County stormwater facilities are prepared well in advance of the start of storm season to protect communities from flooding and capture as much rainfall as possible for future use as drinking water. Once the rain begins, storm patrols will monitor vulnerable communities and flood control infrastructure to ensure that debris basins, reservoirs, and channels are operating as intended. LA County Public Works is also coordinating with partner agencies to notify people experiencing homelessness who may be at increased risk during storms.

Residents in recent burn areas can pick up free sandbags at the following locations:

  • 252 Mountain View St., Altadena (Public Works Fleet Maintenance Yard)
  • 23519 W. Civic Center Way, Malibu (Malibu Library Parking Lot)

Sandbags are also available at County fire stations across the region. Visit lacounty.pw/sandbags for available locations.

To report storm-related issues, such as downed trees, flooded intersections, or clogged storm drains, call the LA County Public Works 24/7 Dispatch Center at (800) 675-4357.

Residents are encouraged to sign up for emergency alerts at ready.lacounty.gov and follow @readylacounty and @lacopublicworks on social media for the latest updates.
