Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Question:
Regarding your Santa Barbara reusable bag ordinance #5 has printed on the bag, or on a tag that is permanently affixed to the bag, the name of the manufacturer, the location (country) where the bag was manufactured, a statement that the bag does not contain lead, cadmium, or any other heavy metal in toxic amounts, and the percentage of postconsumer recycled material used, if any;... Can you please tell me:
Our research tells us that Santa Barbara is the only municipality that requires the factory name on the bag. This requires additional plate and cylinder costs for a manufacturer and inventory issues in distribution centers for retailers who have stores throughout the country. We will comply with all regulations but want to see if the factory name can be omitted.

Answer:
The County of Los Angeles ordinance only applies to the unincorporated areas of the County. For information about the City of Santa Barbara reusable bag ordinance please contact the City of Santa Barbara directly at (805) 564-5669.

The County of Los Angeles requires the manufacturer's name, country of origin, and the postconsumer recyclable material content be printed on the reusable bags or on a tag that is permanently affixed to the bag to make it easier for stores to find and source the bags that are compliant with the County ordinance.
