Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Question:
How do you properly and safely dispose of home-generated sharps waste such as medical needles, syringes, and lancets in Los Angeles County?

Answer:
Beginning September 1, 2008, state law prohibits the disposal of home generated sharps waste in the regular trash cans, recycling, green waste, or large commercial dumpsters. Los Angeles County Department of Public Works', Sharps Waste Collection Program offers residents a safe and convenient way to properly collect and dispose of home-generated sharps waste. The sharps waste management program also provides residents with approved sharps containers and mail back containers free of charge at various locations throughout Los Angles County, while supplies last. Please refer to the sharps waste program website (link provided) for additional information and a complete listing of designated distribution and collection sites throughout the County.

We appreciate your efforts to properly dispose of your home-generated sharps waste. If you have any other inquiries, please call our hotline at 1(888)Clean LA.
