Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Question:
To what standards should BMPs be implemented?

Answer:
There are various standards by which BMPs should be implemented, depending on regulation and need. For example, short-term BMPs used for erosion and sediment control need to meet the requirements of the Construction Stormwater Permit or the Development Program of the Los Angeles Municipal Stormwater Permit.

On the other hand, requirements of the Low Impact Development call for long-term BMPs to treat or infiltrate the runoff from the Water Quality Design Storm for almost all projects.

Requirements of Total Maximum Daily Loads are another type of regulation development. In addition, normal local design and safety standards would apply if the BMP were to be constructed under a street or sidewalk, be exposed to the public, etc.
