Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Hi! I know how to dispose sharps but what about the strips that contain blood? I've seen at the Doctor's office they have the strips mixed in the same container which I guess would make sense but when I asked a nurse she said you don't have to do it. Where should the Glucose strips go? Thanks for the reply!

Thank you for using our website and checking with us on the proper disposal of your lancets or the strips containing blood. As of September 2009, state law prohibits the disposal of home-generated sharps waste in the trash. "Home-generated sharps waste" means hypodermic needles, pen needles, intravenous needles, lancets, and other devices that are used to penetrate the skin for the delivery of medications in a household setting. As a result, all of the identified sharps waste must be collected in a proper sharps container and disposed of at proper designated location for sharps waste.

You may visit the County's Home-Generated Sharps Waste Management website below for more information on proper sharps waste disposal and for designated locations to obtain free sharps containers and properly dispose of sharps waste.
