SERVICE INFORMATION

County of Los Angeles Charter Transportation Bus Program


The County of Los Angeles Charter Transportation Bus Program (Charter Bus Service) provides charter bus transportation to groups that request transportation service to recreational, educational, cultural, and special events. The Charter Bus Service is funded by Proposition A Local Return sales taxes approved by the voters. All Charter Bus Service trips must comply with the Guidelines for Proposition A and Proposition C Local Return (Guidelines) issued by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The following information and instructions ensure the Charter Bus Service complies with the Guidelines, program, and other legal requirements.

  1. Travel within the areas of Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura Counties, and portions of Kern, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties are eligible. Trips segments to San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties are proportionately eligible and will require payment for the ineligible portion of the trip. The fee will be assessed in proportion to the distance traveled outside the area. Trips to locations not within either the eligible or proportionately eligible area are not eligible.   2. Trips for special events or destinations, such as parks and concerts, may be served, however, all members of the general public including individuals with disabilities must be allowed to use, the service.

  3. Trips are available to the general public, subject only to the same space limitations applicable to persons the group has invited to use the service.

  4. Trips may be limited to certain persons: (a) 18 years old and younger (accompanied by adult supervision), (b) 50 years old and older, or (c) with physical or cognitive disabilities (accompanied by assistants), and the availability of such trips for use by members of the general public will be similarly limited.

  5. Trips must be advertised to the general public.

  6. Trips will not transport public elementary school, middle school, and/or high school students during normal school hours.

  7. Trips are not for religious purposes or to support any private school.

  8. Trips will be equally available to all persons regardless of religious beliefs.

  9. The group will not charge or seek reimbursement from any passenger for the cost of the requested Charter Bus Service.

  1. Groups must contact their respective Supervisor's Office and inquire regarding application deadlines and to verify group/trip eligibility.

  2. Groups will be required to complete an application, which asks for necessary information to ensure compliance with the Guidelines, program and other legal requirements. Please call the appropriate Supervisor's Office before submitting your application.

  3. There may be additional eligibility requirements, such as limits on the number of buses that will be approved per group, trip distance, and cancellation policies.

  1. PW will contact one of the contracted bus companies to schedule the trip. Bus availability is not guaranteed.

  2. PW will send a trip confirmation to the group contact within one week of the trip date. If a confirmation is not received within one week of the trip date, please call PW at (888) 524-6287.

  3. Any request for change(s) or cancellation to original trip request must be made 7 days prior to the trip date and may require approval by the Supervisor's Office. There is no guarantee that the County can accommodate the request.

  4. All scheduled trips are advertised to the general public. PW will advertise the trips on LAGoBus.com. The information includes trip date, pick-up address, destination address, contact person, contact phone number.

  1. Groups agree to provide current contact information for use by members of the general public who wish to reserve a seat on the scheduled trip.

  2. Groups are responsible for obtaining all necessary clearances, passes, permits, and other requisites associated with the trip.

  3. Groups are responsible for tolls, parking, and other charges associated with the trip.

  4. Groups are responsible for informing all persons who reserved a seat on the trip, including members of the general public, of any trip cancellation or modification.

  5. Groups will maintain a roster of trip participants, including contact information. Groups agree to provide copies of the rosters when requested by Supervisorial Office and/or PW.

  6. Groups are responsible for costs associated with damage to buses, including cleaning graffiti, soiled seats, or other damages.

  7. Groups with questions or issues regarding a trip may contact PW at (888) 524-6287.

  1. Groups must be ready for pick-up and departure as scheduled in the trip request. Vendors may have limited availability due to other trip assignments and may be forced to leave without the group if the group is not ready to depart as scheduled.

  2. Groups must have a chaperone that will travel with the group and will oversee the group while on the bus.

  3. Groups should contact PW, at (888)524-6287, if a bus does not arrive within 15 minutes of its scheduled pick-up time or if there are other problems during the trip.

  4. The County, PW, or the charter bus company are not responsible for any loss, theft or damage to any personal items carried/transported by passengers in the bus during the trip.

  5. For everyone’s safety and comfort groups shall adhere to the Charter Transportation Bus Service Code of Conduct throughout the duration of the trip.

All transportation for scheduled trips is open to the general public, provided there is seating availability and the person meets other requirements, such as age restrictions. For more information see Item 4, under What are the Guidelines and Requirements?
