CARB Votes to Adopt LCFS Updates
On November 8, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved updates to the Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS). One of its goals is to reduce the carbon intensity of California's transportation fuel by 30% by 2030 and 90% by 2045. The amended LCFS extends the use of biomethane for renewable hydrogen to align with goals outlined in California's 2022 Scoping Plan, which is the State's plan for reducing emissions and reaching carbon neutrality. According to the Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas (RNG Coalition), the LCFS updates will continue to recognize the dual emissions reduction benefits of RNG projects, which displace fossil fuels while capturing methane from organic waste sites, like landfills, dairy farms and wastewater treatment facilities. State-Of-The-Art Regional Anaerobic Digestion Facility One Step Closer to a Reality in Minnesota
A proposed anaerobic digestion (AD) facility is undergoing permitting after a final agreement on the feedstock supply contract was reached. The facility is designed to process up to 75,000 tons of organic waste each year and produce renewable natural gas (RNG) for use by utility companies. The digestate from the AD process will go through a gasification process to make biochar. For more information, click here.
