US EPA Issues Requests for Information (RFI)
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) is developing and implementing several new programs as directed by the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), also referred to as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This action provides the public with the opportunity to respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) to inform the development of the following programs:
-
Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling (SWIFR) Grant Program. This program will fund improvements to local post-consumer materials management including municipal recycling programs and will assist local waste management authorities in making improvements to local waste management systems. For more information, click here.
-
Recycling Education and Outreach Grant Program and Model Recycling Program Toolkit. The grants will fund programs to improve the effectiveness of residential and community recycling programs, including those that tackle waste prevention, through public education and outreach. The toolkit will assist states, tribes, and local governments in informing the public about residential waste prevention (e.g., source reduction, reuse, refurbishment, repair, composting) and residential or community recycling programs to improve collection rates and decrease contamination. For more information, click here.
-
Development of Best Practices for Collection of Batteries To Be Recycled and Voluntary Battery Labeling Guidelines. This program will promote battery recycling through the development of voluntary labeling guidelines for batteries and communication materials for battery producers and consumers. Information from wide range of stakeholders, such as industry, academia, government agencies, and the public, is requested on the end-of-life management of batteries including collection, recycling, reuse, and the current labeling standards/requirements for batteries.
