 DOE Selects Community Partners to Receive Waste to Energy and Materials Recovery Technical Assistance
The U.S. Department of Energy's Alternative Fuels and Feedstocks Office (AFFO) and the National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) have selected recipients for the FY26 Waste to Energy and Materials Technical Assistance program, including Los Angeles County Public Works. Through this program, NLR will provide free guidance to state, local, and Tribal governments to use new technologies that turn waste into energy or recover valuable materials like critical minerals. The program aims to help local officials create sensible solutions for their waste management issues, fill knowledge gaps, and plan and carry out implementation approaches that fit their communities. This year, the program has expanded to include additional municipal solid waste streams like electronics, industrial wastewater, and other byproducts. For more information, click here.

 Ontario Anaerobic Digester and Biogas Plant Receives $18.8M Investment
Canada's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Tim Hodgson, joined local officials and Generate Upcycle leadership in announcing an $18.79 million investment from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) to support the expansion of the London Anaerobic Digester and Biogas Plant. The London, Ontario-based digester is the largest food waste anaerobic digestion facility in Canada that produces renewable natural gas (RNG) from municipal source-separated organics and industrial, commercial and institutional food and beverage waste. Once construction is complete, Generate Upcycle says the facility will have the capacity to produce up to 832,000 gigajoules of RNG. For more information, click here.
