Altadena is a community with mature trees which have cracked and lifted the sidewalk. The broken sidewalks could trip pedestrians and diminish ADA access.
The County replaced 1,400 sqft of damaged concrete sidewalk with
rubberized panels made of crumb rubber from waste tires.
Often with concrete sidewalk reconstruction, trees need to be removed.
But with the rubber pavers, the trees could be saved because they could be temporary removed to prune roots.
This project resulted in recycling 1,280 tires.
