Project Summary
In response to requests received from the community, Public Works completed a traffic study to address speeding concerns on Mount Vernon Drive between Presidio Drive and Victoria Avenue in the unincorporated community of View Park-Windsor Hills. The traffic study included field observations, a review of the collision history on file with the California Highway Patrol, a review of existing signage, and an analysis of vehicular speeds and volumes on Mount Vernon Drive.
Based on this study, Public Works determined that Mount Vernon Drive between Presidio Drive and Victoria Avenue is a viable candidate for the installation of various traffic calming measures to help reduce vehicular speed along this road.
Traffic calming measures include a traffic circle at the intersection of Mount Vernon Drive and Homeland Drive/Mullen Avenue and a delineated two-way left turn lane along Mount Vernon Drive between Presidio Drive and Angeles Vista Boulevard. The installation of the various traffic calming measures is intended to reduce mid-block collisions and deter speeding. The traffic circle measures is intended to deter speeding and assist motorists in assigning right-of-way and navigating the intersection.
