Community

The Project Team is committed to working closely with the community to find ways to best minimize any short-term disruptions so that we can achieve long-term benefits. The Project team is also dedicated to keeping residents informed throughout the Project’s development and construction.

Various Project alternatives were presented in a series of community meetings in 2013 and 2015. Based on community feedback, Public Works spent the period of 2016-2022 assessing and modifying the proposed Project plan so that it could use a phased approach. This approach will help to disperse and reduce community impact over several periods.

This new Project approach is in the early planning stages. Community members will be able to provide ongoing input into the Project elements as they are developed over the next few years. The team welcomes community comment at any stage- please use the Contact Us page form to reach out to us.

One of the first of many feedback opportunities is to provide input into what environmental topics should be analyzed in the Draft Program Environmental Impact Report. There will also be an opportunity to provide comments on this Draft Report in 2025. Please see the About page for more details on how to submit a comment.

Please check back in with this website for future community meeting dates.

What Will be the Environmental Impact of the Project?

The Project team is working closely with environmental agencies to obtain necessary permits and follow best practices to protect natural resources and habitats in the area.

  • Some of the environmental considerations that are being assessed in the Program Environmental Impact Report include:
    • Erosion and sediment control
    • Wildlife protection
    • Noise and air quality
  • The Project team will continue to monitor and address any environmental concerns throughout the construction process to ensure the long-term sustainability and ecological health of the area.
