In accordance with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Los Angeles County Public Works has undertaken a comprehensive evaluation of its policies, programs, and services with the aim to remove barriers to access by persons with disabilities.
Public Works’ core value of greater inclusion is aligned with the purposes and intent of the ADA and Section 504 to ensure that all its constituents, including persons with disabilities have equal opportunity and access to its programs, services, activities, and facilities. Public Works’ ADA Self-Evaluation Report will provide the framework to take the necessary steps for the modification and removal of those barriers, and to plan for continued access improvements as changes are implemented and conditions evolve.
Self-Evaluation Report
The draft final document of the Self-Evaluation Report was available for public review from September 14, 2023 to October 16, 2023. The Self-Evaluation report has been finalized and is available to the public upon request.
Transition Plan
Public Works has undertaken a phased approach to its Transition Plan. This report is limited to Phase 1, Facilities Chapter of the Transition Plan, dealing with existing facilities that pre-date the ADA compliance date. Facilities or elements that were constructed or altered after January 26, 1992, are considered new construction or alterations under the applicable ADA Standards. Out of a scoped list of 209 existing facilities that consist of County-owned and leased facilities, 54 public-facing facilities have been identified, primarily in Divisions that have public counters (e.g., Building and Safety, Land Development, Waterworks facilities, and the main Headquarters campus). Also included in the public-facing list are municipal airports that are maintained by Public Works and are located throughout the County.
The draft final document of the Transition Plan is now available for public review until April 20, 2025. Please direct all your questions and/or comments to ADAInquiries@dpw.lacounty.gov.
