Fire Station 156 (Public Buildings)
Summary
The project is a new 11,050-square-foot fire station constructed on 1.3 acres at 24050 Copper Hill Drive, Santa Clarita, and consists of a two-bay apparatus room; main office; day room; kitchen; exercise room; dormitory quarters for seven personnel; and a detached dozer team facility containing dormitory quarters for three personnel, kitchen, day room, and bathroom.  The project incorporates sustainable design features that allowed the County to secure a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification.

Benefits to Environmental Resources
Sustainable Sites:
  • The selected project site is above the last 500 years flood zone and is well connected by public transportation. 
  • Parking space for low emitting and fuel efficient vehicles.

Water Efficiency:

  • Project has 1.1/1.6 gallons per flush dual flush Water Closets, 0.5 gallons per minute (GPM) lavatories and low flow shower heads 1.5 GPM.
  • The landscaping is drought-tolerant.

Energy and Atmosphere:

  • All heating, ventilation, and air condition systems in the fire station use HFC 410A refrigerant, which has zero ozone depletion potential.
Materials and Resources:
  • 75 percent of all construction waste was diverted from a landfill.
Contribution to wellbeing of DPW and the County
Fire Station 156 provides needed Fire Department services to the Santa Clarita community.  The fire station supports the County goals of improving operational effectiveness, Children and Families' Well Being, and Community and Municipal Services that will benefit the Santa Clarita Valley community by improving the Fire District's ability to respond to local emergencies.
Contribution to Economic Health
The project consists of an investment in public infrastructure.  The project will use energy and potable water efficient fixtures and equipment.  This will result in cost savings for the County, since there will be a reduction in energy and potable water consumption.
