LOS ANGELES (February 12, 2025) — Los Angeles County and its local and state partners have taken critical steps to safeguard people, property, and the environment ahead of this week’s storm. With moderate debris and mudflows possible—especially in recent burn areas like Eaton, Palisades, Bridge, Hurst, Kenneth, Sunset, Hughes, Lidia, and Franklin—crews are working around the clock to manage flood control infrastructure, monitor vulnerable areas, and protect communities from potential hazards.
With as much as six inches of rain forecast for recent burn scar areas, some streets may be completely blocked by debris, and isolated debris and mudflows are anticipated. Depending on location and terrain, some structures could be at risk. Residents in affected areas should pay close attention to local news reports, sign up for emergency alerts and be prepared to evacuate if directed to do so by law enforcement officials.
Los Angeles County Public Works has mobilized 24/7 maintenance patrols to respond to any emerging threats and ensure flood control dams, river channels, and stormwater capture facilities remain fully operational. Debris basins designed to intercept mudflows in fire-affected areas have been cleaned and fortified ahead of the storm.
To help residents protect their homes, over 20,000 sandbags have been distributed, and additional sandbag distribution sites have been set up in the Eaton and Palisades burn areas at:
- Victory Park: 2575 Paloma St, Pasadena
- Robinson Park Recreation Center: 1081 N Fair Oaks Ave, Pasadena
- La Costa Post Office: 21229 Pacific Coast Hwy. Malibu
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and take precautions ahead of the storm. Those located in burn areas should stay indoors if possible and avoid contact with stormwater runoff, which may contain debris and pollutants. Motorists are advised to avoid burn areas and mountain roads.
