Los Angeles County’s Nonconforming Vehicle Ordinance

Los Angeles Country’s Nonconforming Vehicle Ordinance (Title 15 – Vehicles and Traffic, Section 15.64.075) restricts parking of nonconforming vehicles along public roadways. This ordinance is intended to enhance public safety, address traffic safety concerns and improve quality of life for our residents.

A nonconforming vehicle is defined by the Los Angeles County Code as any vehicle and/or trailer, together with all fixtures, accessories or property affixed thereto, that exceeds one or more of the following dimensions:

  • More than 8 feet in width
  • More than 7 ½ feet in height
  • More than 20 feet in length

Examples may include:

  • Large Recreational Vehicles
  • Box trucks
  • Commercial trucks
  • Oversized vans or trailers

Owners of nonconforming vehicles may obtain up to 24 or 30 daily permits, depending on the designated Nonconforming Vehicle Districts, per calendar year from their local Los Angeles County Sherrif Station. Permits may not be used for more than two consecutive 24-hour periods, for a maximum of 48 hours at a time.

The Nonconforming Vehicle Ordinance applies only within the designated Nonconforming Vehicle Districts. There are currently eight (8) existing Nonconforming Vehicle Districts. An ordinance amendment to expand and add 13 new Districts is currently in the works, with parking restrictions expected to go into effect in late Spring 2026.
