A Day Without Hunger
The Food DROP program also includes A Day Without Hunger, a series of food recovery/distribution events throughout Los Angeles County to raise public awareness of food insecurity.
Event Highlights
Businesses:
- May bring surplus food to their nearest food recovery event.
- Learn how to safely donate food while claiming tax benefits.
- Receive recognition for having a food donation program.
Residents:
- Residents who need food are encouraged to come and receive free nutritious food and demonstrations on healthy meal preparations.
- Residents with excess food may donate unopened, non-perishable (retail packaged) food items.
- Residents may also donate fruits from their backyard to nonprofits. Call an organization below to set up a time and date for pickup.
- Food distribution volunteers are welcome. Please email FoodDROPLA@dpw.lacounty.gov or call (626) 458-3561 for more information on volunteer opportunities.
Companies/Work:
- Encourage employees or coworkers to join a group and volunteer at one or more of our events!
- Coordinate a food drive at work and donate to a local food pantry or A Day Without Hunger event(s).
- Learn what your company can do to implement or improve on a recycling program to reduce food waste in your break rooms.
