 Exercise Your Right to Freedom from Single Use Foodware and Accessories

Now is the perfect time to bring your own clean foodware containers for restaurant leftovers. Restaurants, beverage bars, cafeterias, supermarkets and other permanent food facilities in unincorporated LA County are now no longer allowed to provide food in single-use food containers and accessories that are not compostable or recyclable. Restaurants, cafeterias, food trucks and other food facilities in the State are no longer allowed to provide single use foodware accessories (e.g. straws, forks, condiment packets, napkins, etc.) to customers except upon request.  Celebrate a Plastic Bag Free New Year!

Stores in unincorporated LA County are no longer allowed to provide single-use plastic carryout bags. To find out more about the County's Carryout Bag Ordinance, click here.

 Construction and Demolition Debris

Projects requiring a construction, demolition, and/or grading permit must recycle at least 65% of the debris generated. The C&D Debris Recycling and Reuse Program provides information including forms and resources.

 Franchise Solid Waste Collection System

The Franchise Solid Waste Collection System has been implemented in several County unincorporated areas to provide residents and businesses with enhanced solid waste and recyclables collection services. Additional areas will be implemented soon.

 Garbage Disposal Districts

The Garbage Disposal Districts are unincorporated County areas in which solid waste collection services are provided to residents and businesses by contract waste haulers.

 New Trash Collection System for the North County

New Garbage Disposal Districts are being proposed for Acton, Agua Dulce and unincorporated Antelope Valley areas that will provide weekly trash, recyclables and green/organic waste collection for residents and businesses. Click here for more information.

 HHW/E-waste Program

Household hazardous waste is any leftover product labeled toxic, poison, corrosive, flammable, combustible, or irritant, that you want to discard. Find out more at our Household Hazardous Waste website.

 Sharps Waste Management Program

State law makes it illegal for residents to dispose of home-generated sharps waste in the trash. To learn how to safely manage and properly dispose of sharps waste, click here.

Do you have old paint, oil, cleaners, televisions, or electronics that you're not sure what to do with? Dispose of these items properly at a FREE Household Hazardous/Electronic Waste (HHW/E-Waste) Collection Event near you - there's one almost every weekend around L.A. County.

 Antelope Valley Collection Center

The Antelope Valley Environmental Collection Center accepts household hazardous waste and electronic waste for FREE. Center is open 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month.

Why We Should Recycle Used Motor Oil.  Important facts on used motor oil. Recycling your used oil is easy, just follow these simple steps.

Recycle your used motor oil and used oil filters at a County sponsored event. For more details about these events, click here (PDF, 162KB) for more information.

Used motor oil and filters should be brought to one of the 650 state-certified used oil collection centers for recycling at no charge.

Solid Waste

 Conversion Technology

Conversion technologies are sophisticated processes capable of converting post-recycled residual solid waste into renewable energy and fuels as well as other beneficial products.  SWIMS

Visit the Solid Waste Information Management System (SWIMS) website for a listing of solid waste facilities that are open to the public, disposal tonnage reports, and publications such as the Los Angeles County Integrated Waste Management Plan.

 Solid Waste Committee/Integrated Waste Management Task Force

The Task Force oversees solid waste management policy in the County of Los Angeles, and is comprised of representatives from local government, the solid waste management and recycling industry, and members of the general public, the business sector, and environmental organizations.

Stormwater

 Stormwater Prevention

Visit the Stormwater Quality Division Website to learn more about the Municipal National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit, Low Impact Development (LID) Manual , the County's Stormwater Ordinance, watersheds, and related items.

To report illegal dumping/discharges, anywhere in Los Angeles County, into the County's Storm Drain System, call 1(888)CLEAN LA,  24 hours per day.

Please contact your city to report a clogged storm drain, request storm drain stenciling, and learn about what your city is doing to improve water quality.
