Compton/Woodley Airport
Located approximately 10 miles east of Los Angeles International Airport and
near the Home Depot Center sports complex with access to the 91, 105, 110 and
710 Freeways, Compton/Woodley Airport facilitates over 60,000 general aviation
takeoffs and landings each year. The airport was originally utilized as an
airfield in 1924 and is named in honor of Earl W. Woodley who owned and
operated the airport from 1936 until his death in 1962. Today the airport,
which has been owned and operated by the County of Los Angeles since 1966, is
publicly available to general aviation aircraft 24-hours a day seven days a
week and is home to 200 based aircraft, an aviation museum, and several
aviation-related businesses.
Compton/Woodley Airport safely and efficiently accommodates a wide range of
fixed-wing and rotary-wing general aviation aircraft ranging from small
two-seat, single-engine propeller aircraft up to much larger and higher
capacity turbo-prop and jet aircraft. Among other features, the airport has
dual parallel runways (each 3,322’ by 60’) with the south runway equipped with
a precision approach path indicator (PAPI), full- and self-service fueling
services (100LL) available around the clock, and advanced weather reporting
equipment such as the recently installed state-of-the-art Automated Weather
Observing System (AWOS).
