Overview

Rehabilitate Runway 8L/26R and Associated Cross Taxiways A, C, E, F, and G, and Taxiway N [Design]

The project includes the design for the rehabilitation of approximately 12.5 acres of pavements for the north runway and associated taxiways. It will also address a Runway Incursion Mitigation Program issue by reconfiguring Taxiway E to meet current Federal Aviation Administration design standards. The estimated cost for design is $1.3 million.

Current Status:

  • Received FAA Airport Improvement Grant in the amount of $1,384,192
  • Received Caltrans Airport Improvement Program matching grant of $69,210
  • Tenant meetings held on July 10, 2025, and November 6, 2025
  • Design is expected to be completed by August 31, 2026
  • Construction planned for fall/winter 2028/2029; estimated to cost $15 million

New Airport Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) [Non-ACIP Project]

The Federal Aviation Administration has been provided funding through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Air Traffic Facilities Program to design a new and modern ATCT facility to replace the current facility at the airport.

Current Status:

  • The FAA completed its initial site selection/evaluation.
  • No updates from the FAA on timing for construction.

Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) System for the Airport Terminal Building

The project includes the replacement of the current HVAC system in the airport terminal building which has exceeded its useful life and functions inconsistently, resulting in inefficiencies and frequent down-time. The project will be funded through an interest free loan or federal grant funding.

Current Status:

  • Los Angeles County Internal Services Department solicited and obtained proposals for the work which is estimated to cost $950,000
  • Public Works applied for a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) competitive grant
  • Construction planned for summer/fall 2026
